Drag Fishing

Are the department of marine resources making too many laws of fishing zones?  People tend to think these kind of jobs are fun and they pay really well, guess again!!!!  Just about everyday there's new laws or something is being changed. Is that right? Do you think there should be more conservation zones or less?  If you're for the conservation zones  why. And if you're against conservations zones why should we get rid of them.

  1. How much do these jobs averagely pay?

  2. I think it depends on the types of laws being created. I think it is important that we have laws to protect our natural habitats, but I also don't think there should be a new law created every single day. Somehow there needs to be a happy-medium where the wildlife is protected from things such as overfishing, but also lenient enough that the outdoors is still enjoyable.

  3. There's no exact average because the fishing prices bounce up and down all the time and the amount of fish you catch is different every time.

  4. I agree with Meryl. it does all depend on the types of laws that are created and if they protect of natural habitats or not. it doesent matter what you are getting paid as long as you are helping the enviroment

  5. I agree that there needs to be laws regulating this stuff, but it shouldn't be constantly changing. They need to choose one set of laws and stick with it for a designated period of time unless some sort of emergency pops up.

  6. I believe we need to find a happy medium with have both types of zones.

  7. I think it depends on the types of laws being set, and where the zones are placed. Laws need to be enforced to secure the habitat and population of our animals, but at the same time fishermen contribute a lot to our society.

  8. The Department of Marine Resources is going to in-force how ever many laws they want, that's what they do and it's for the safety of fishing. They don't just create laws for no reason, it has a purpose. Marine Conservation Zones are protecting us from dumping, undersea mining and oil and gas into the water, which may damage the aquatic or terrestrial ecosystems.

  9. I agree with Kristin completely. It is important that we conserve our resources, especially in areas where they are running out quickly. If we continue to overfish at accelerating rates, we will eventually run out of a particular species. But, also, as Kristin said, fisherman do play a key role in many communities economically.

  10. I agree with Meryl. There should laws to help protect the wildlife but not so many you can't enjoy the wildlife. What types of laws are being made and for what reasons?

  11. What exactly is a conservation zone? Where are they already located?

  12. I believe that there should be less conservation zones because, coming from a lobstering family, I have experienced the frustration my family has encountered when specific areas are being restricted for lobstering, which are known to have an abundance of lobsters.

  13. The problem is with drag fishing is we its either hit or miss for example one time you go out you hit that jackpot and load up with the your limit on cod. The next time you go the same zone its marked off that you can not fish this zone so you go to the next one over and all you catch is skate. By the time you bring these fish up and throw them back into the water the fish are all dead and its a big waste of money.

  14. Maya, a conservation zone is a place off shore that restricts commercial fishermen from fishing in that area

  15. I agree with Asa about the happy medium. Are conservation zones put in place to restrict areas to try to build the fish population after the area was fished heavily?

  16. I believe that a conservation zone is a good idea. As I look at what Robbie said, fishermen do not like these set zones because they know they can go elsewhere and catch more fish. But if people could just go where ever they want, then things such as lobster would get extremely over fished and the population would decrease at a very fast rate.
